Mutton Meatballs With Whole Wheat Bread

This tendered mutton meatballs dish is famous among India and Pakistan alike. The juicy and tender meatballs provide a good source of protein. The meat needs to be tender and completely cooked to enhance the flavour. This dish is best served with yogurt “Raita.” A Raita is made with yogurt mixed with different herbs including mint, garlic, etc. Raita is a refreshing condiment and mostly consumed with the spicy food to balance the taste of spices.

For bread we will use the easy-to-find whole-grain bread called couscous. Now let’s talk about the ingredients

  •  Breadcrumbs 2/3 cups
  •  Reduced-fat milk 3 tablespoon
  •  Minced lamb 1 and half pound
  •  Chopped fresh mint 2 tablespoon
  •  Chopped fresh oregano 1 tablespoon
  •  3 garlic cloves
  •  Ground cumin 1 and half teaspoon
  •  Black pepper half teaspoon
  •  1 finely chopped onion
  •  Salt
  •  Beef stock 1⁄4 cup
  •  Cucumber shredded half cup
  •  Yogurt half cup
  •  Fresh dill chopped 1 tablespoon
  •  Lemon juice 2 teaspoon
  •  Whole wheat couscous 1 and half cup

To prepare this mutton meatballs recipe, first, start with making meatballs. In a mid-sized bowl, add milk and breadcrumbs. Take a fork and start mixing both of these ingredients until the mixture becomes completely thick. Add minced lamb in the mixture along with cumin, garlic, mint, onion, oregano, pepper, and salt (to your taste). Mix all the ingredients for two to three minutes, so that all the ingredients get completely mixed. This mixture is our raw material for making our meatballs. Take a small portion from this mixture and using your hands make small balls. Use all the mixture to make your meatballs.

You can use a slow cooker to cook your meatballs. It is going to take 2 to 3 hours to cook your meatballs. Add the meatballs to your slow cooker. Pour your beef stock on the meatballs and cook on low settings for 2 to 3 hours.

Now we will make our Raita. Take a medium-sized bowl and add yogurt along with lemon juice, dill, salt (to your taste) 2 tablespoons of finely chopped yellow onions. We are going to add cucumber but first remove the extra moisture. Take a kitchen towel and put the cucumber inside the towel. Squeeze the towel to remove the excess water.

Put cucumber in the above mentioned mixture and then blend them in a blender. Place mixture in a small bowl. Use the instructions on the couscous packet to prepare the couscous. The dish is ready. Use couscous evenly with the meatballs.
